Welcome to our first newsletter! We will have one on a quarterly basis to inform you all about our fight to help save Aruba’s beautiful reef As I began to educate myself about the problem I realized
that WE could do something about this threat to Aruba’s natural beauty. We can scuba dive to hunt them and remove them with pole spears to decrease their numbers. Together with Abigail Vrolijk
and Luciano Mazzeo we decided to commit our time, energy and financial resources to do just that. The Aruba LionFish Initiative was born on Jan 21, 2017 and we began to raise awareness of the problem by actively working to solve it.
When we began scuba dive hunts on a more regular basis it became clear that WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! In 2017, we removed over 2700 LionFish from our more accessible dive sites saving 13.5 million of our reef fish per year for the 15 year life span of a LionFish. Those numbers add up one dive
at a time and one fish at a time. Constant effort over time is the only formula for successful management of the LionFish invasion. Now it is up to you to keep the momentum oing! Please continue to support the efforts of the all volunteer ALFI Foundation. WE NEED YOU to; dive and hunt with us, sell us your LionFish, make a donation, eat delicious and nutritious LionFish, help raise awareness about the problem and, most importantly, join us to be part of the solution!
